Speed Commands Help & Examples

Once you’ve exhausted all of your competitive juices in CS:GO for the day, joining a custom server with legal cheats enabled might just be the break you’ve been looking for. This way, you can enjoy a laid-back game where you share a few laughs with your teammates without having to worry about climbing or dropping a rank.

Speed commands, in particular, provide casual players with some much-needed excitement. There is nothing more exhilarating than running around the map, making heavy frags at double the speed, or trolling your teammates by drastically slowing them down.

If you’d like to learn a few CSGO speed codes yourself, stick around and let us guide you through the process.

Legal Speed Commands in CS:GO

Legal CS:GO speed codes are commands entered into the console by a server administrator that don’t require enabling cheats beforehand. These are an excellent way to change the setting quickly without inserting multiple commands at once.

There are essentially two different things that you can do by entering speed commands in the CS:GO console without the sv_cheats command active. A common misconception is that legal speed commands can speed up time. However, the reality is you can only use these to slow it down or revert it back to the default setting:

  • -speed: Entering this command in the console will make everyone’s movements on the map much slower.
  • +speed: This one can only be used to revert slowed-down time to the default speed setting.

How To Activate Legal Speed Commands

The process for activating the legal CS:GO speed codes couldn’t be any simpler. Here’s what you need to do to slow down time for everyone on your server or revert the speed back to the default setting:

  • While in-game, open up the CS:GO console using the tilde (~) key.
  • Type in the command -speed and hit Enter to slow down time.
  • Have your laughs and make your teammates struggle.
  • Once you’ve had your fun, open the console again, insert the command +speed, and hit Enter to restore the time setting to normal.

Alternative Speed Commands

If you don’t have a problem with having the cheats enabled on your server, then you’re in for a thrill. These alternative CS:GO speed codes will enable you and your teammates to uncontrollably move around the map, shooting anything that gets in your way and having a blast:

  • cl_forwardspeed: Command used to make your character faster or slower while moving forward.
  • cl_backspeed: This command allows your character to move faster or slower while moving backward.
  • cl_sidespeed: A command that allows your character to move faster or slower while moving sideways.

How To Activate Alternative Speed Commands

The process for entering these commands is pretty straightforward, with the small caveat of enabling cheats on your private server. These are the steps necessary in order to activate them:

  • Boot up the CS:GO console using the tilde (~) key.
  • To enable cheats on your server, type in the command sv_cheats 1 and hit Enter. To disable them afterward, type in sv_cheats 0 in the console and hit Enter.
  • Type in one of the commands mentioned above or all three in separate lines, followed by the amount of time you want to speed up or slow down. The default speed setting is always set to 400, so anything above that makes the game faster, and anything below makes it slower. For example, cl_forwardspeed 800 will increase the speed.
  • Close the console and enjoy faster or slower gameplay, based on your preference.
  • Type in the commands to set the speed back to normal, followed by spacing and 400. For instance, cl_forwardspeed 400 will set the forward movement speed back to normal.
