CS:GO mat_monitorgamma Commands (Max Brightness)
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has been one of the most popular games since its introduction in 2012, selling over 25 million copies of the game. Every player has personal preferences regarding the way they play the game, the settings, the preferred skins, and everything else.
Some of the settings are widely accepted in professional players’ circles, such as low mouse sensitivity and maximum brightness, to help them better play the game. You can set the brightness in different ways, using the CSGO brightness command or doing it automatically in the game directory. Adding a bind to change the brightness while you play the game is also an option.
Why is Maximum Brightness Recommended?
There are a few reasons why pro players set the brightness to the maximum level. Each of them has something to do with some type of competitive advantage over the opponents and very rarely with the game performance or the eye comfort of the players.
Pro players set the brightness to the maximum with a few things in mind: being able to see the enemy in areas where the players’ visibility is limited due to lack of light, having better clarity of the objects in the game, and being able to react quicker.
Using the CSGO brightness command to set it to the maximum comes with a disclaimer that it can slightly change objects, colors, and details in the game, and with an extended time of play, it can damage players’ eyes.
How Do We Set The Brightness via Command in CSGO?
Here is a simple guide on how to change the level of brightness in CS:GO:
- Open console
- Type mat_monitorgamma, followed by a number (a lower number means brighter colors and the lowest value is 1.6)
It can also be done using mat_monitorgamma_tv_enabled followed by the number 1. This setting can enable or disable television color mode.
