What Skins Will Go Up In Price After CS2 Releases?

1

Intro

There were a lot of speculations about which skins would go up in price after CS2 was released and many of them were correct. In fact, most items went up in price, especially cases. Even the cheapest cases ($0.20) turned into a $2 sell.

So, with CS:GO now gone and CS2 now growing in numbers, are there going to be any skins that will go up in price?

Well, to help you get a return on your skin investment, we’ve looked through the Community Market, various forums, and sites and found potential skills that might go in price as CS2 keeps evolving.

Let’s check them out!

The Logic Behind Skin Pricing

Before we look at the list of skins that you might need to invest in, let’s first talk about how CS2 skins are valued.

  • Availability – the most important factor that affects the price of a skin is availability. Usually, the most expensive skills are Factory New or Stat Trak Factory New (FN) as these are the rarest variants of a skin.
  • Visual Appeal – the easiest way to determine whether a skin might be worth someone is by asking yourself “Is it pretty?” If it is, then it’s probably worth something. If it’s pretty, Factory New and Stat Trak, then it’s probably worth a lot.
  • Weapon – another impact that determines the price of a skin is the weapon. If the skin is for a weapon that’s most often used, like the AWP, AK-47, or M4A4, it’s going to be in the expensive rage. If a skin is for rarely used weapons like Negev, shotguns, R8 Revolver, etc. it’s more likely that it will never rise high in price.
  • Updates – Valve updates may sometimes affect the price of a skin. For example, the CS2 update made certain skills reflective/shinier, so they went up in price. However, this factor is unpredictable as we can’t know when Valve will drop an update and if it will affect a skin.

So, next time you’re wondering “Are CS2 skin prices dropping?” consider these three factors we listed.

AK-47 Asiimov (Field-Tested)

If you’re looking for a budget skin investment in CS2, then have a look at the AK-47 Asiimov, Field-Fested variant. The Factory New option is pretty limited and expensive at around $200 and Minimal Wear Asiimov doesn’t seem to vary in price.

However, Field-Tested Asiimovs can go up to $40+, while they’re now sometimes priced under $30 and sometimes going as low as $25. There is potential for this skin to go above the $40 mark, so it can be an investment that doubles your return after some time.

4

StatTrak Dual Berettas Melondrama (FN StatTrak)

This skin for the dualies isn’t very popular, but it does have quite a unique design and its colors pop even more now once CS2 dropped. The StatTrak Factory New was sold for hundreds of dollars years ago, but now it has dropped to $15 or lower.

However, be on the lookout for the StatTrak FN Melondrama as it may jump in price as it was recently used by a couple of pro players at the Blast Premier Spring Final 2024

5

Shadow Daggers Rust Coat (Battle-Scarred)

This might be one of the only skin that ignores the “Is it pretty” rule as it definitely is one of the ugliest shadow daggers on the market.

However, it is still a knife skin, so it will always be highly valued. Currently, the Battle-Scarred shadow daggers are priced at around $90, but analyzing the price history, it seems that this knife skin is on a constant price rise. Considering that all knives are constantly increasing in price, these Shadow Daggers can be a good investment.

6

Gut Knife Scorched (Field-Tested)

Another knife skin that isn’t very pretty, but at least it’s different than the default knife. The Field-Tested Scorched Gut Knife varies by up to $20 (up or down) in price, but looking at the lifetime price graph, there is an obvious constant rise in pricing.

So, if you’re looking to finally get rid of the default knife skin and run something else and also get a return on your investment, this Gut Knife might be it!

7

AK-47 Inheritance (Minimal-Wear StatTrak)

The AK-47 Inheritance is still pretty new, so its price fluctuates by a lot. It started out at $600+, but it quickly dropped into the $200-$250 range. So, if you time it right with this price correction, you might grab a Minimal Wear StatTrak Inheritance for less than $200, and then it could jump up back to $300.

8

Zeus x27 Olympus (FN/MW StatTrak)

The Olympus is the first-ever skin for the Zeus, so it’s a huge milestone for Counter-Strike and the skin-trading community.

Because it’s going to be the first and oldest Zeus skin ever, we might see a pretty big jump in pricing for the Olympus MW or FN StatTrak. However, it’s a risky investment because new skins might overshadow the Olympus and it could considerably drop in pricing.

9

AK-47 Neon Rider (FN)

The AK-47 Neon Rider is one of those skins that got a huge bump in pricing after CS2 was released. It got a price hike mostly because of the flashy neon colors that look considerably better in CS2 compared to CS:GO.

But, even though the price increased for the Neon Rider, the FN supply is still low, so it might see a further increase in the pricing. And, if it doesn’t, it is very likely that it will stay at the same price point for a long time, so you shouldn’t lose any money with this skin investment.

10

M4A1-S Printstream (FN StatTrak)

The Prinstream for the M4A1-S is a certified classic. It’s S1mple’s favorite M4A1-S as he’s played a long time with it and even won several S-tier tournaments while using it. Many other pro players prefer the Prinstream over other skins as well.

It’s nice to look at, so we understand why so many people like it. And that’s probably why it hasn’t stopped increasing in value since it dropped from the “Operation Broken Fang Collection”.

Back then, after the first price correction, you could grab a StatTrak FN M4A1-S Prinstream for less than $400. But, back then, everyone preferred playing the M4A4 over the A1-S which is why it was cheaper. Once the update that buffed the M4A1-S dropped, it reached the $1000 range.

Nowadays, you could still grab it for less than $1000, but the price varies by a whole lot, and based on float, you could sell it for $1300+ if you manage to find the right buyer. If not, you could also hold on to it and it will most likely keep rising in price.

Tips On Predicting CS2 Skins

The best way to get an answer to your “Will skin prices go up in CS2?” question, is by predicting the price by yourself. Of course, you can never make predictions with 100% accuracy, but data-based predictions will most likely bring you more money than a random guess.

  • Price history – the first thing you should check if you want to figure out if the skin is going to go up in price is its price history. The best way to do that is through Steam’s Community Market. Make sure to check all variations of a skin (StatTrak, FN, MW, etc.)
  • Supply and demand – the supply of a skin directly affects its price. So, if you want a more accurate prediction, keep track of the number of requests and listings on the community market.
  • Keep a close eye on CS updates – Valve is always pretty hush about upcoming CS updates, but there are often leaks. Keep a close eye on these leaks and potential updates that might affect a skin. Note that weapon buffs can also affect a skin’s price if the weapon starts getting used more often than before.
