List Of Counter-Strike Maps
While some maps did get buried in the past, there are plenty of others that made the cut even throughout the latest versions of the game, such as CS:GO and CS2. Booting up your favorite shooter can be a blast from the past, especially if playing at some of the timeless locations that have been a part of the game for over two decades.
That being said, let’s have a stroll through all CS:GO maps and understand the various playstyles surrounding them.
Types of Counter-Strike Maps
There are four official types of maps: Hostage Rescue maps, Bomb Defuse maps, Assassination maps, and Escape maps. There is one more category typically referred to as Community maps. However, you won’t be able to find these on the official CS:GO client unless you download them from a trusted source.
Each of these types maintains its own distinct gameplay mechanic that separates it from the others. However, you will often find players enjoying them without worrying about the playstyles attached to them, as making standard rotations through these undoubtedly became muscle memory for most.
Without further ado, here’s a list of all counter strike maps available in the game, as well as some memorable oldies that might bring a flashback or two.
Hostage Rescue Maps
These maps are also referred to as the original map type, where the Counter-Terrorist team’s job is to rescue NPCs (Non-Playable Characters) being held hostage by the Terrorist team. The hostages are strategically located at a Terrorist spawn location, meaning that the Counter-Terrorist team needs a solid infiltration strategy. Hostage rescue maps include:
- cs_assault
- cs_havana
- cs_italy
- cs_militia
- cs_office
- cs_compound (Counter-Strike: Source)
- cs_siege (Counter-Strike 1.6)
- cs_747 (Counter-Strike 1.6)
- cs_backalley (Counter-Strike 1.6)
- cs_estate (Counter-Strike 1.6)
Bomb Defuse Maps
Nowadays, bomb defuse maps are the most commonly played type. Considering that all competitive matches in CS:GO are played in defuse maps featuring the bomb mechanic, it’s normal that they are perceived as player favorites. Take a look at the list of all CS:GO maps that feature the notorious C4 explosive:
- de_dust2
- de_inferno
- de_aztec
- de_dust
- de_airstrip
- de_nuke
- de_piranesi
- de_prodigy
- de_cbble
- de_train
- de_port (Counter-Strike: Source)
- de_tides (Counter-Strike: Source and Counter-Strike: Condition Zero)
- de_vertigo (Counter-Strike: Source and Counter-Strike 1.6)
- de_vegas (Counter-Strike 1.6)
- de_cpl_mill
- de_cpl_fire
- de_cpl_strike
- de_cpl_overrun
Assassination Maps
Assassination maps are pretty straightforward. A member of the Counter-Terrorist team spawns as a VIP, owning a fully loaded USP pistol and 200 armor points. The objective of this type of playstyle is to make sure the VIP survives the journey from the spawn point all the way to the rescue point. There is only one assassination map available in the game:
- as_educat
Escape Maps
Escape maps can no longer be found in any live instance of Counter-Strike. During its tenure, this map type required the Terrorists team to reach a particular exit point on the map before the timer runs out. The Counter-Terrorists, on the other hand, were responsible for stopping the Terrorist team from making it to the exit point. Some popular escape maps in Counter-Strike include:
- es_frantic (was live in Beta 6, however, removed in Beta 7)
- es_jail (was live in Beta 6 and removed in Beta 7)
- es_trinity (was added in Beta 6.5, though removed in Beta 7)
Community Maps
The last types of maps on our list are the community maps. These maps are created by the biggest Counter-Strike enthusiasts, bearing some unique play styles that aren’t even officially available in the game. So, what CS:GO maps are community made that you can actively play in?
Considering that there are hundreds upon hundreds of community-made maps out there, it’s impossible to go through all of them. However, here are some of our personal favorites:
- Thera
- Insertion II
